I love this place, the atmosphere is welcoming and the food is fantastic. The customer service is great. And it's clean, which I think is SUPER important. You can see that the staff enjoys being there. The food is fresh and isn't like typical diner food you have around the area. It's a great place to relax and enjoy breakfast and lunch!

We ate here this past Sunday for brunch and it was delicious! I was so happy to find a new non chain in the area. The food was awesome and on par with Egg Harbor and Walker Brothers. My husband had the meat lovers skillet and biscuits and gravy and he loved it. It is hard to please him too. My 3 year old had the chocolate chip short stack and she ate almost all of them. I had a Popeye egg white Omelet (Spinach and Swiss) and it was so fluffy and delicious. The hash browns and toast were great too.The coffee was fresh and I only drank about a 1/4 of the cup before it was freshened up. The service was great and the staff was happy we were there. It is kid friendly too. We have a 3 year old and a 9 month. The whole family enjoyed it.

The food was delicious! We got the Venetian Benedict, regular Benedict, and some red velvet pancakes. All were delicious and we will definitely be going back!

this is my second day in a row eating at this place. Omg! Loveeee their food! My husband had the chorizo Benedict and he said it was amazingly delicious! He also had the red velvet pancakes which were outstanding. I had butter milk pancakes, one egg, hashbrowns, toast,coffee,.. Everything was egg-streamly delicious. I'm a pancake fanatic.. I tried many breakfast joints and I would say this place and whistle stop have the best pancakes in lake county. The second day I came back and had their pumpkin pancakes with homemade pumpkin puree butter. Tasted very natural. They were good but I wouldn't say they are the best pumpkin pancakes I had. I prefer to stick with the old fashion buttermilk pancakes. Yummmm. The staff are extremely friendly and make sure you are refilled and satisfied with your food. . the only negative I would say is... The place is very small, two of the booths have holes in the seat with tape. Its kind of uncomfortable to sit on. There was no sugar or splenda at my table, I had to get up to get some. Place is pretty new...yet needs some repairs. It would be great if they had to go menus at the front door. I would love to bring a menu home. Also... Where's the business cards? This place needs ton more advertising! I have been bragging about this restaurant all week! This is going to be our breakfast spot for now on.

Amazing pancakes!! I'm not going to lie these are some of the best pancakes I have ever had at a restaurant, they are so fluffy and melt in your mouth soft. The coffee is good and hot, the service is wonderful, and you can't beat the price.

Finally a new restaurant for breakfast in Round Lake! We have eaten here 3 times in the last few weeks. The food was excellent every time. Try the Spanish omelet - it's wonderful! Service is very good. We haven't had lunch here yet so we can't comment on that, but we hear from friends that it's very good.

The apple pancake is the bomb! They're omelette and hash brown are so authentic and tasty, there is no comparison to other chain breakfast places. It isn't the most updated or fancy place but I can easily overlook that with the amazing food! The portions are large and you can easily feed two for under $20. It has a mom and pop feel and there's something about it that just makes you feel at home. I've found my favorite breakfast place ever!

  • Brandon N.

Tried this hard to find spot and I completely agree with other reviewers about being a hidden gem. It's just as good, if not better than, what you expect from Walker Bros. Definitely a mom & pop place using fresh ingredients, very reasonable prices, and very nice staff / servers. The strawberry crepes were excellent - light with fresh sweet strawberries. Asked for the orange glaze / sauce & whip cream on the side. Glad I did since they didn't need it and I could regulate proportions. Homemade corned beef hash, hard to find, was tasty especially when combined with hash browns w/ cheddar cheese and eggs. Hash browns were perfectly crispy. Definitely coming back to try other menu items.

Just ate here for the first time this morning and it was great!! I ordered a ham and cheese omelet and red velvet pancakes, which were Amazing!!!:) They were very soft and fluffy, the way a pancake should be! The coffee was delicious, and so was my omelet!!:) The service was great too!! I do agree with another review that I had read about maybe having a sign when you first come in to seat yourself and also at the end we weren't sure if they would come get the check and our payment or if we pay at the counter, we ended up paying at the counter, which was fine. Overall, a great experience, and I highly recommend this restaurant!! Great food, great prices, and great service!

We ate there a few months ago and the place is a dump with bad food and bad service. The French toast was soggy and swimming in a pool of butter, my fiancé couldn't even eat it. When the waitress came and asked her why she didn't eat it she got snooty when we told her why, what the heck! We'll never go back.

Small, quaint and wonderful. Amazing food and attentive service mark this tiny homey place. Seating is first come first served and there were a few people waiting through our entire breakfast. Staff are personable without being overbearing. The food was amazing. I have the Spanish skillet and the person with me had an omelet. Both were fresh, cooked to perfection and light. Worth the wait for this tiny gem.

Add the clam chowder to the list of one of the best I have ever had. If you like chowder that actually taste more like clams than pudding you will love this. One year old grand daughter can't get enough of the cream of chicken rice. Can't wait for our fish tacos. Like every thing else we have tried here it is done well with a little extra flair.

I'm afraid to rate this place since Round Lake has a tendency to lose my favorite restaurants (looking at you, Jay Ho India and I never even got to try Aiden's Place!!). I got take-out breakfast for me and my husband and boy, was it good. I got the strawberry crepes and a side of hashbrowns. He got he apple pancake. Everything was fresh and delicious. The orange sauce (Suzette) with the crepes was obviously homemade and really good. We'll probably go back again tomorrow because we want to try everything there! The Steak and Eggs special was only $10 and I just had Steak and Eggs that were awful at a Greek dinner in Indiana that charged $13, so this is a great deal!

I really like this small, local diner. The food is always good and they have creative things on the menu even though I am not adventurous enough to try them. Like all good diners, they serve an excellent cup of coffee. The service is always friendly and efficient. You get the sense that it has become a local meeting place for informal groups of friends and co-workers.

A terrific accommodating staff, with absolutely delicious food for both breakfast and lunch. It's hidden but well worth the trip.

Super slow service on a Sunday. Awesomely nice folks though. The food was average.

Hidden gem! Not only is their food delicious it is also well priced and their service is outstanding. This is definitely a new favorite spot for us and I can't believe we haven't been here sooner. My only fear is that word will spread and I'll have to wait longer for a table. This is just a charming and well run business. These folks are doing a lot of things right and we will be back again and again.

Nice little breakfast spot in our neighborhood. The service was friendly & they kept my coffee cup filled. Food was delicious with a nice size portion. Husband enjoyed his meat lovers skillet & I enjoyed my eggs, with hash browns, bacon, & pancakes...delicious. I'm a bit weird about my bacon being overcooked but overall enjoyed it. I gave 4 stars because it is seat yourself with only about 10 tables & I thought the little two-seater table near the front door was kind of pointless but that was my fault to choose that table...I was hungry lol!

I love this place. I like how intimate the setting is. My family and I go here every Sunday for breakfast. The ladies all know us and what we usually order. We don't even need menus anymore unless we want something different. Their garlic sliced potatoes are to die for! The serving sizes are perfect. Try their homemade syrup. It's delicious!

  • Darlene M.

First time today and food tasted good. Small place but clean and service was good. They have homemade corn beef hash and pancake syrup. My hash portion was smaller than expected and I think it had lemon in it. Didn't care for that but my sister had eggs Benedict and it looked delicious. Syrup was different but very tasty. The prices were reasonable and I would recommend this place.

This place is a hidden gem. Probably the best breakfast option in Lake County. The service is always super friendly. Highlights: Apple Pancakes: Excellent! They take 30 minutes to cook - but call ahead and they will start cooking them before you get there (I'd recommend calling 15 minutes prior to arrival). Eggs Benedict: Top notch. Corn Beef Hash: Made from scratch, and honestly ... the best I've ever had. Don't take my word, taste for yourself.

What an awesome breakfast and lunch spot. The food is really fresh and delicious, the servers and cooks are super friendly, and the place is clean and very kid-friendly. It's tucked away in a weird corner, so you really have to know it's there. But selfishly, I'm kind of glad, because otherwise this place would be PACKED. Everything is really good, but I really love those fish tacos. At first, I was turned off that they served them with fries, it just didn't seem right. But the fries are so flippin' good I wouldn't have it any other way now! ;)

Really surprised with with this restaurant. Between this and Aiden's Place the Round Lake Area really has two great additions to the food scene. I had the Southern Bell Benedict this past weekend and I could not be any more pleased with the dish. No breakfast place in the area can compare with the home made biscuit and the gravy sauce. Menu has a lot of interesting options you will not find anywhere close in Lake County. Place was packed last Sunday and it's because it is one of best options around for breakfast. I'd wait for 30 minutes to eat here. It's that good.

New favorite breakfast place in Northern Illinois. Still haven't found anything even nearly this good in all of Chicago. Their bacon menu items are superb and their specials are incredible! I love biscuits and gravy and Eggspress definitely tops my list. Even their coffee is delicious. Service was great, clean and comfortable environment. I cannot say one bad thing about my experience here. Bonus... its a stone's throw away from the Round Lake Metra stop. I'd give 10 stars if I could!!

The food here is amazing! Perfect spot in our neck of the woods that literally has little to offer. I absolutely love the customer service... Nothing makes me happy than AMAZING customer service. Clean and just all around fantastic spot. Coffee is great too!!

Have you ever wondered what sweet potatoes in a skillet breakfast instead of white potatoes would taste like? Well that's what i ordered ... and delicious it came to me. I will definitely eat breakfast here again.

ABSOLUTELY....LOVE....THIS.....PLACE!!! I live right around the corner and never knew it was here. I stumbled upon this place on my way to ace... it is now my preferred breakfast n lunch spot. The staff is outstanding, the place is very clean with a great environment. We LOVE our waitress she is super awesome with great people skills... my kids love her... WE HAVE NO COMPLAINTS... they have won me for life... My wife loves their Biscuits n gravy; she says their the best she's had in lake county. I absolutely love their western omelet...With some jalapeños and mushrooms...... I wish they were open now. :) great place...awesome people.

Awesome quality breakfast! I found it here in yelp and we try and go or order from there any chance we get. Just need some take home menus :-)

The food was great, and would probably give the place five stars if the whole experience matched. My only complaint is that since it's a small place seating is light and the door butts up to the dining area. Which means during the cold months there is a draft every time someone lanes or comes and there is little room for waiting (basically salivating / staring down the eaters to hurry up and finish). Regardless of the complaint, I'd still go back but probably during spring, summer and fall only.

There's a hidden gem in the suburbs of Round Lake, IL called Eggspress Cafe. I can't express enough how much I love the food and the family atmosphere. Everyone there including the cooks get to know everyone of their customers. It truly makes you feel good just to know that they value and appreciate you. I look forward to them asking me about work and how my week has been. If you haven't already been here, stop by and try them out!

Being big-time breakfast people, we were not pleased. Not going to waste time on ambience and decor, the food was not good. Seemed like the omelettes were preformed and lacked a freshly made taste. The potatoes were undercooked as well. I ordered the Spring Omelette that contained asparagus, red and green pepper and Parmesan cheese. I didn't taste the cheese until almost done with the omelette and found black olives in it as well. It was also quite dry. Since this was our first experience, we may try one more time, but I'm not holding my breath.

For my first visit, I have to say it was just A-OK. It's possible they are better than that, so time will tell. THE PROS: Walked in & seated right away, no wait. Cute basic diner decor, nice stonewall work at counter. Extensive menu & prices are average. Accommodated requests of no salt, less oil & butter. Food tasted good, not exceptional. The blueberry pancakes my friend had looked & she said tasted really good. Biscuits, tho small, were homemade & not bad. Good coffee & adequately replenished. Food arrived quickly & seemed fresh. Tiny blueberries but good taste/texture. Eggs were cooked properly. Cook/chef came out himself to ask how food was, but we hadn't tried anything yet at the time. Still, nice touch. THE CONS (mostly service related): Didn't know if we were supposed to seat ourselves or wait when we arrived. A sign would help. Exterior is a little divey, & not well seen from the street, & I assume they are working on signage. My gravy tasted a bit of raw flour, needed to cook longer. Not terribly well-seasoned either. A server shouldn't pickup the toast with bare hands when I say, that's for my husband. Big turnoff! We arrived at 11:10, & they closed at noon (Labor Day weekend hours). The waitress made us feel a tad rushed like they were closing soon. It's a new restaurant & our first time. She let us peruse the menu & said we could call her over when ready. When we did so, maybe 5-10 minutes later, made a comment to the tune of "are you sure you're ready?" I don't think she meant anything by it, it wasn't surly, she seemed nice, but it kind of turned me off. It's not like we were holding anyone up. There were only 2 customers at the counter, & another small table. I placed my order for the veggie skillet, & made my special requests which were accommodated. I also wanted to try the homemade biscuits & gravy, so I was debating between the full & half orders which were only $1 difference in cost. She made comments that seemed a little incredulous that I was adding to my order, & especially a full order. Nothing overt, & again I don't feel it was ill-intentioned, just kind of thoughtless, & I felt a little uncomfortable in a judg-y way. Meanwhile, as I ordered we determined a half versus full order is 1 versus 2 biscuits. That's actually a small side either way, totally reasonable add-on. And don't restaurants WANT you to place larger orders typically?? Anyway, I guess it took some space on her ticket & she had to go get another pad. She returned & said looking at me, "are you done?" Really, could you not word that differently?? Way to make me feel like a hog, lady! Lol I said, yes, I believe I am done, & I probably had a tone at that point cuz I was annoyed, & she did say, "I didn't mean that sarcastically." So, I did appreciate that. :) Still, just not a great start. We received our orders & all were of adequate & average size, but definitely experienced larger skillets elsewhere. I'm a light eater at restaurants, esp when trying different things, so I only ate half the skillet, & half a biscuit, which were tiny actually, & I shared the b&g with the table, as was my intention in the first place. Why I feel the need to explain this is just the reflection of how I was kinda made to feel, but why should I be made to feel that way anyway?? A stranger doesn't know my plans or eating habits!! Grrr...ok, it feels good to get this out. You Yelpers are always there for me to vent to- thanks! ;) The last thing that was confusing were the posted holiday hours. We arrived almost an hour before noon, closing time that day, & as stated, felt a little rushed, not badly. After we received our orders, the waitress asked if we needed anything else, which we didn't, cuz she said the kitchen was closing down. This was probably a good half hour before noon. OK, no big deal, though it seems a little early, but I get it, it's a holiday weekend. But ten minutes after that, more parties arrived & were happily accommodated, a good thing, of course. But given the hours, & how we were sorta given the bum's rush early on, I found it all odd. I commented to another lady that cleared our plates, "oh, it doesn't look like your holiday hours are working out," as it was then 12:10. She smilingly said, "oh, no, it's fine, I'll be here cuz my daughter had to go for a wedding shower, but I'm here, so it's totally fine." Oh, that's great news for everybody, I'm sure, but you can see how the conflicting info/projections were a bit at odds. All in all, I'm happy to have a new breakfast/brunch spot in the area as there are few. I know I went on & on about all that above, but I don't want you to think it was bad service. It wasn't. I still tipped just shy of 25%. There are however areas that could use improvement, such as sensitivity. I will definitely return to try other things like the pancakes (BACON pancakes!) & crepes which I hear are really good. Don't let my minor complaints deter you from visiting, either.

I'd give them 4 stars but the server was more into talking to all the guys in the room to even take our order. They're getting 3 stars because my boyfriend loves this place. He gets the Spanish skillet. I tried some and it was great! We got a side of corned beef hash and it was a little sour. Their syrup for French Toast has a weird texture, almost like chocolate syrup. They're very attentive on refills and this one lady (I think the owner/manager) was very nice and friendly. Despite our server I would try this place again. I got an omelet (I don't like omelettes) so I'm curious to try their other menu items!

I would prefer a Greek diner over this place. Most of the seats have holes in them covered up with duck tape. Everything is mismatched so it just has an old dirty feel. From the outside you think it would be modern, fresh and clean. Breakfast shouldn't take over 30minutes to get to your table. Biggest pet peeve is when you order extra crispy hash browns and they come out still half raw. If this was my breakfast place I would have a small pitcher of water with lemon for each table along with a small pot of coffee with fresh creme not the kind in the plastic cups. You have to do something different from the guys next store.

Great local find! Came up first when I googled "breakfast" and we gave it a try. Good fresh options to choose from in a cute little place. Omelets were great, delicious sausage links, and perfect-to-me bacon! Fine cup of coffee with flavored creamer options. Friendly service with a smile. I'm a little late, but welcome to the neighborhood, and see you again soon!

We had breakfast here for the first time on Sat. The staff was awesome. Had the PopeEye Omelet and Rye Toast with hash browns. The meal was fantastic. The egg omelet with spinach and jalapeno cheese of choice had the right fluff and tasted great. Very extensive selection for the menu. Also admired the personal hand written additions of the 3x5 cards on the table. Ice tea was a little watered down, while a new batch of tea was made. That latter tasted much much better. Hope the folks of Eggspress Cafe put of a sign closer to the road. Without that, you might just miss them.

The restaurant was a little hard to find. It is set back between the bowling alley and Ace Hardware. But we are glad we found it! The food was great. You can tell everything is made fresh. Two of us had a veggie omelet and the vegetables were fresh and tasted delicious. The omelet came with hash browns and your choice of toast or pancakes. The omelet was large, along with a good amount of hash browns. Then with the pancakes or toast, it was so filling. It was really a lot of food! The pancakes were thick and fluffy buttermilk pancakes and you could tell they were made from scratch. No boxed mix. My son had chocolate chip pancakes and he absolutely loved them! The waitress was very friendly and was sure our coffees were topped off, even though she was quite busy. There was not an empty table in the place. We went at about 9:00 on a Friday morning. We will definitely be going back and trying other foods! Maybe even stop there for lunch. They have a huge menu for both breakfast and lunch, though you can get breakfast at anytime.

Surprisingly great! Good service, kind people. Very down hole kind of place but it only adds to the charm. Bacon pancakes are a must have!
